Morecambe Cleared to Kick Off Season Against Altrincham

Morecambe’s National League season will finally get underway this Saturday after weeks of uncertainty, with the Shrimps now free to sign players again.

The Lancashire club had been forced to postpone their first three matches of the campaign after being suspended by the league for failing to meet its rules. The situation left fans fearing the worst, but those worries have eased following a dramatic turnaround in recent days.

Takeover Completed and New Era Begins

On Sunday, Morecambe’s long-running takeover was finally completed, with the Panjab Warriors consortium taking charge of the club. Just 24 hours later, manager Derek Adams was sacked and replaced by Ashvir Singh Johal, who made history on Tuesday by becoming the first Sikh to manage professionally in England.

The changes didn’t stop there. By Wednesday, the National League officially lifted the club’s transfer embargo, confirming that all football creditors – including players, staff, and HMRC – had been paid.

Optimism Returns

Morecambe said the new owners are bringing a fresh start and plenty of hope. They believe the fans will see a buzzing atmosphere as the team looks to set the right tone from the very first game.

The club added that Saturday’s match is “more than just the first game of the season, it’s the start of something special,” and urged supporters to turn out in numbers.

A Fresh Start

When the week began, Morecambe were understood to have just five players under contract, but the lifting of the embargo means Johal can now start to build a squad worthy of the campaign ahead.

Altrincham have three games under their belt already, with one win and two losses, but for Morecambe it’s about much more than the result as they finally step back onto the pitch with fresh hope.
