Newcastle Make Improved £40m Bid for Wissa

Newcastle United have returned with an improved £40m offer for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, as the forward pushes for a move to St James’ Park.

The Magpies’ new bid is structured as £35m upfront plus £5m in add-ons, which is higher than their last offer of £30m. However, sources suggest it still falls short of Brentford’s valuation.

Talks Back On

Discussions between the two clubs had stalled in recent weeks, but talks have now reopened following a meeting between Wissa and Brentford owner Matthew Benham on Tuesday. That meeting is understood to have prompted Newcastle’s latest push.

Wissa, 28, has made no secret of his desire to join Newcastle. Earlier this summer, he flew home early from Brentford’s pre-season camp in Portugal and even threatened not to play or train again if his transfer was blocked. While relations have since calmed, he continues to make it clear that his future lies away from west London.

Instagram Hint & New Signing

Adding to the speculation, Wissa recently removed all references to Brentford from his Instagram profile. He is believed to have expected his move north to be sanctioned this week, especially after Brentford signed Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth as his potential replacement.

Brentford, however, have so far stood firm. The Bees have already lost Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United this summer and are reluctant to see another key forward depart without securing their squad depth.

Last Season’s Form

Wissa enjoyed a standout campaign in the Premier League last season, scoring 19 goals and proving himself one of Brentford’s most important players. His ability to stretch defences and finish clinically has made him an attractive option for Newcastle, who are keen to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season.

Right now the deal isn’t done, but with Wissa pushing for the move and Newcastle determined to land him, this transfer story is far from finished.
